OKN Presents Taste of Korea at VoC’s International Food Fair

On Tuesday, November 7, One Korea Network and the Free Koreans Association participated in the International Food Fair in Washington, D.C. The International Food Fair is an annual event hosted at the Victims of Communism Museum, where countries that suffered under communist rule present their food and culture. OKN represented the Taste of Korea by presenting Korean dishes, including Yubuchobap, Japchae, and Mandu, to people from more than twenty countries. The attendees stopping by OKN’s booth also had a chance to learn about the great famine in North Korea in the late 1990s and the ongoing human rights violations.

Henry Song, the director of OKN, said, “Having participated for the first time, I was delighted to present Korean food and the tragic stories of food related to the misery in North Korea, such as famine and starvation. It was very encouraging to see so many people learn about the dire situation in North Korea and get interested. I want to thank the Victims of Communism Museum and its staff for organizing this meaningful event, where people once from communist countries could come together and share like-minded thoughts.”
