We regret the spelling error for one of the cities named in the newsletter that went out this morning. The name of one of the cities where the North Korean refugees were repatriated is 난핑, not 남평.
| “중국, 2023년 10월 9일 월요일에 600명의 탈북민 강제북송 시작” OKN, 10월 12일 목요일 낮 12시에 중국대사관 앞에서 강제북송 반대 집회 열어 중국과 대한민국 소식통에 따르면 중국 정부가 10월 9일 월요일에 600명의 탈북민을 도문, 훈춘, 단동, 난핑을 통해 비밀리에 강제 북송했습니다. 소식통은 최대 200명의 탈북민이 단동을 통해, 나머지는 위에 언급한 다른 도시에 위치한 국경시설을 통해 강제 북송되었다고 전했습니다. 최근에 열린 항저우 아시안 게임 폐막 후 강제 북송이 시작될 것이라는 염려는 현실이 되었으며, 중국 정부가 북중 국경으로 몇 천명의 탈북민들을 계속 북송할 것이라는 사실에는 의심의 여지가 없습니다. 탈북민들이 처한 곤경이 얼마나 심각하고도 중요한 사안인지를 국제사회에 알릴 수 있도록 OKN이 이번 주 목요일 낮 12시에 중국대사관 앞에서 진행하는 강제북송 반대 목요집회에 여러분 모두가 참여해 주시기를 간곡히 요청드립니다. 탈북민들을 살립시다! |
| China Repatriated 600 North Korean Refugees on Monday, October 9, 2023 Protest at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 12-1 pm According to sources in China and South Korea, the government of China repatriated around 600 North Korean refugees yesterday, Monday, October 9th under the cover of darkness, through the cities of Tumen, Hunchun, Dandong, and Nangpinzhen. The sources said that up to 200 North Koreans were repatriated through Dandong, and the rest were divided up between the other cities and sent back to North Korea via the border facilities in those cities. The repatriation of North Korean refugees, which was feared to happen once the Hangzhou Asian Games ended, has already started, and there is no doubt the Chinese government will ramp up the repatriation of the estimated thousands of North Koreans via the border with North Korea. In order to highlight this serious, critical issue and call the world’s attention to the plight of the North Korean refugees, OKN urges all who can to join in our weekly protest in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., this Thursday from 12 to 1 pm.
