Hanwha Systems and IAI collaborate for naval combat platforms

Hanwha Systems will join hands with Israel’s leading defense company, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), to globally export combat platforms on naval ships.

On the 15th, Hanwha Systems announced that it has signed a joint marketing business agreement (MOU) with IAI to export naval ship combat systems.

Under this agreement, the two companies plan to collaborate to enter the global market, including Asia, based on Hanwha Systems’ naval combat system and system integration technology, along with IAI’s naval armament and sensor technology. To achieve this, a separate steering committee was formed to promote continuous and developmental cooperation.

The combat system, which can be called the ‘brain of a ship’, refers to a weapons system for integrating and operating various sensors, armament, communication, and command systems. Hanwha Systems is currently the only company in South Korea to have the ability to develop combat systems, including the next frigate ‘FFX-III’, the next destroyer ‘KDDX’, and also has experience in exporting to Southeast Asian countries, such as the Philippines and Malaysia.

Hanwha Systems’ CEO Eoh Sung-chul said, “We have been supplying combat systems to more than 80 Korean naval ships and submarines for over 40 years,” adding, “Through this collaboration with IAI, I believe we will contribute to strengthening the naval power of Asian countries.”
