Yoon Seok-youl, the presidential candidate for the People Power Party (PPP), is ahead of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea (DP), outside the margin of error in the latest virtual polls.
The Jayu Press commissioned Asia Research & Consulting to survey 1,001 adult men and women nationwide on the 13th.
According to the survey of a simulated poll, Yoon was ahead of Lee by 11.8 percentage points, with Yoon polling at 48.7 percent and Lee at 36.9 percent. Several polls have shown that Yoon’s approval ratings have slightly fallen since his recent remarks on “cleaning up the deep-rooted evils of the Moon administration,” but Yoon is still ahead of Lee outside the margin of error.
Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate from the People Party, who proposed unification with Yoon through a poll on the 13th, polled at 7.2 percent, the Nation Revolutionary Dividends Party’s candidate Huh Kyung-young at 2.3 percent, and the Justice Party’s presidential candidate Sim Sang-jung at 2.0 percent.
It was the same in the rankings for favorability based on each candidate’s pledges—Yoon polled at 42.8 percent, Lee at 35.0 percent, Ahn at 10.3 percent, Huh at 4.6 percent, and Sim at 4.0 percent.
When asked about the nature of this presidential election, 57.3 percent answered that “the government should be changed to the opposition party to correct the wrong state of affairs.” 36.9 percent of the respondents said, “The ruling party should be re-elected to continue to administer state affairs.” In particular, 92.4 percent of Lee’s supporters chose to “re-elect the ruling party,” while 96.7 percent of Yoon’s supporters and 81.5 percent of Ahn’s supporters chose “government change.”
The survey was conducted on February 13 through an automated telephone response system (ARS) using a structured questionnaire targeting 1,001 adult men and women aged 18 years or older nationwide.
Participants were allocated and extracted based on gender, age group, and region from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security’s census standards by the end of October 2021.
The response rate was 10.7 percent, and the sampling error was ±3.1%p at 95 percent reliability.
