The use of “Cho kuk’s scandal”
On August 22, when the Moon Jae-in regime declared the termination of GSOMIA, the Republic of Korea was in uproar over various corruption cases of Cho kuk, who was a candidate for the Minister of Justice. In particular, the suspicion of his daughter’s illegal admission to university and medical graduate school angered Korean parents and students who put their life on the entrance examination.
On the other hand, the mainstream of various media reports related to GSOMIA was that it would be extended smoothly. In this situation, GSOMIA was terminated, so questions were raised by most media outlets in the Republic of Korea that the Moon Jae-in regime aimed to turn the criticism of public opinion about Cho-kuk, the candidate of the minister into the Japanese issue. In fact, Yoon Sang-hyun, chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, pointed out at a press conference the next day that “there was no information at all from the government that it would be terminated.”
However, the analysis on YouTube’s each diplomatic security expert channel, mostly watched by the patriotic people holding Taegeukgi, is completely different. Jee Man-won (representative of System Club), who studied system engineering in the United States and earned a Ph.D, and Park Sung-hyun (Internet newspaper New Daily, chief editor), who received a bachelor’s degree in political science from George Washington University in the United States after studying in the Department of Political Science at Seoul National University, said, “GSOMIA termination was planned from the beginning, rather Cho kuk’s corruption scandal was used as the public opinion turned to it. I also agree with their analysis.
Dr. Jee Man-won, a former army colonel and also a Vietnam veteran, is leading a great debate over the ‘Gwangju 5.18 incident’, a case of Korea’s modern and contemporary history that is far more controversial than the ‘Nanjing incident’. (YouTube ‘Jee Man-won TV’)
New Daily’s chief editor Park Sung-Hyun (pen name “Bangmo”), who participated in an underground communist party for a while in his 20s, has been working on various activities for the development and spread of discourses on the history of Northeast Asian civilization and the history of world civilization from a liberal perspective as he changed his ideology early in his youth. The identity of the Jusapa movement forces in the 80s, which currently dominate the Moon Jae-in regime, is ‘anti-American’. Since ‘anti-American’ actually includes ‘anti-Japanese’, there was no need for a student movement to stand for ‘anti-Japanese’. They have been spreading anti-American movement since the 1980s, claiming the withdrawal of US troops. The last peak was the incident of Misun and Hyosun, two middle school students who were killed with the US military armored vehicle in 2002 when Roh Moo-hyun was elected as a president. There was also an analysis that Roh Moo-hyun’s election was possible with this anti-American trend.
However, since the election of Roh Moo-hyun, anti-American sentiment in Korea has faded rapidly. In 2005, the Roh Moo-hyun administration, which was based on anti-American forces, pushed for the Korea-US FTA on its own, and it created a crack in anti-American forces. In fact, President Roh Moo-hyun did not have deep interchanges with the Jusapa activists. Personally, he had a left-wing orientation, but he did not go to college and spent his 20s among the public, so he was relatively free from the activist group’s thoughts. Therefore, such experience made him listen more to the voices of the pro-American left and the liberal left, that regard highly of the practical American-style progress than the radical left and the anti-American left, and caused him to make decisions that are completely different from the supporters. The anti-American forces alienated from the regime weakened their power, and the Korea-US FTA easily passed the National Assembly.
Of course, in the early days of the Lee Myung-bak government in 2008, a candlelight demonstration of US beef mad cow disease was spread, a by-product of the Korea-US FTA. However, this was due to the public’s overreaction to safe food rather than anti-American. In fact, the Lee Myung-bak administration announced a policy that it would not allow imports of US beef over 30 months of age, and the candlelight protests subsided. Since then, US beef has maintained a market share of more than 50% in the Korean market, and no one has pointed out the risk of US beef.
As the ROKS Cheonan sinking occurred on 26 March 2010 near Baengnyeong Island, and the bombardment of Yeonpyeong occurred on November 23, 2010, the nation suffered from extreme security concerns. In response, the United States immediately dispatched the United States Navy nuclear-powered aircraft to the West Sea of Korea and conducted a joint South Korea-U.S. military exercise. As a result, many people, including the victims of Baengnyeong Island and Yeonpyeong Island, were relieved. Since 6.25, it was the first time that the power of the U.S.-South Korea military alliance was actually felt.
The continued entry of U.S. aircraft carriers into the West Sea, where China’s internalization is taking place, works as a big deterrent force for China and North Korea. (‘SBS News’, a Korean terrestrial broadcaster).
“First button of anti-American”
It is no exaggeration to say that since then, the anti-American movement of leftists has almost disappeared on the surface. Even during the THAAD dispute of the United States at the end of the Park Geun-hye regime, the anti-American incitement of the leftist forces did not work at all. Even after entering the regime of Moon Jae-in, who impeached President Park, it did not change, so Moon Jae-in could not reverse THAAD installation.
As the anti-American movement is stopped this way, the left-wing forces turn their eyes to anti-Japanese. In particular, they dug into the issue of comfort women that has relatively a large national sentiment, and this anti-Japanese stance even moved the regimes of Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye. The fact that Osaka-born President Lee Myung-bak visited Dokdo suddenly at the end of his term, and that President Park raised the issue of comfort women and maintained distance from Japan was all due to the influence of the anti-Japanese movement. ln fact, the forces that lead the comfort women movement in Korea are closely connected with the anti-American and pro-North Korean forces.
For this reason, even under the Moon Jae-in administration, it has only been focused on anti-Japanese without doing anti-American moves openly. The result was the Supreme Court’s ruling on compensatory damages for forced draft by Japanese companies. The problem is that the Moon Jae-in regime, which promotes the federal unification with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, cannot push it only with anti-Japanese. The United States has thoroughly controlled the Moon Jae-in regime’s support for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. In this regard, from time to time Jong-un has been fiercely criticizing in statements Moon Jae-in regime, who often surrenders to the United States. For about a month before the termination of GSOMIA, they also protested by launching short-range missiles once a week.
GSOMIA is an agreement with Japan, but there has been a strong request from the United States. It seems to be a problem with Japan, but it is a problem with the United States. The first button of anti-Americanism that the Moon Jae-in regime, who had been promoting Anti-Japanese only due to national sentiment, could show Kim Jong-un was the termination of GSOMIA.
What would have happened if Kim Jong-un, who was frequently making threatening statements and shooting missiles, watched clearly the declaration of the extension of GSOMIA from the Moon Jae-in regime? Kim Jong-un would have abandoned all expectations of Moon Jae-in and sought a way to live on his own. In this case, Kim Jong-un’s new way to survive could be a negotiation with the United States or with Japan. In this process, Moon Jae-in is abandoned by Kim Jong-un after the United States and Japan, and is driven to the brink politically at home and abroad. From the beginning, Moon Jae-in could not extend GSOMIA. Therefore, the analysis that he terminated GSOMIA suddenly while the public opinion was aroused on the suspicious corruption of the candidate of the Minister of Justice Cho kuk is empowered.

Concerns about the Korean-US alliance due to the GSOMIA termination are spreading in Korea. It is pointed out as the United States continues to publicly express disappointment, not only the Korean-US alliance buy also the Moon Jae-in regime are shaking (Korea’s channel of comprehensive programming, ‘Channel A’)
The price Korea pays
With the termination of GSOMIA, Moon Jae-in threw away the coat of anti-Japanese and revealed the true color of anti-Americanism. Of course, not many Koreans are aware of this. However, various US military security experts and even State Department spokesman Ortagus expressed their stance that “the risk of the US military has increased due to the termination of GSOMIA.”
The Korean people, where Moon Jae-in forces have taken control of the media, are listening to the Moon Jae-in regime’s claim that the United States will mediate the conflict between Korea and Japan even at this time. However, conservative right-wing YouTube channels, which directly convey U.S. side foreign news are warning that South Korea has already left the US-Japan alliance. The price may have to be paid in terms of both security and economy. As the U.S. recognizes Japan’s leadership in Northeast Asia more than ever, Japan’s voice in Korea-Japan relations will be more weighted, and in a short term the IMF foreign currency crisis in 1997 (economy), in a long term The Taft–Katsura Agreement in 1905 could take place
“Kim Il sung’s Gat-Geun Tactic”
The Korean people had been drunk with anti-Japanese play since President Lee Myung-bak’s visit to Dokdo. They believed that the Republic of Korea can easily fight with Japan and subdue it, or that the United States would intervene at any time. However, it has been proven that the Republic of Korea has developed through the Weimar Triangle among Korea, U.S. and Japan. Moon Jae-in’s GSOMIA termination is actually an AWOL from the Korea-Japan-US alliance. The day will soon come when many Koreans realize this. But maybe it will cost too much.
This Kim Il Sung’s Gat-Geun tactic(1975), widely known among anti-communist activists in Korea, that the Korea-US-Japan alliance will collapse if one side cuts the string of alliances, what happened is that the Korean people are caught in this Kim Il Sung’s traditional scheme. (end)
